Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP)

Singapura adalah salah satu negara macan Asia (along with Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Korea).

NYP established on 1 April 1992, dengan menempati lahan hanya 305,000 square metres. In Nanyang Polytechnic, students have a total of 4 months of vacation and 8 months of school. It also provides more time for co-curricular activities (CCA) and other activities. Students are awarded a Diploma in their respective fields after completing the course. The minimum time frame for courses is three years. Graduating students have the option of joining the workforce or continue education in local/overseas University.

The polytechnic (NYP) is made up of seven different schools, namely: School of Business Management (SBM), School of Chemical and Life Sciences (SCL), School of Design (SDN), School of Engineering (SEG), School of Health Sciences (SHS), School of Information Technology (SIT), and School of Interactive & Digital Media (SIDM).

School of Business Management (SBM) have seven diplomas: Diploma in Accountancy & Finance, Diploma in Business Management, Diploma in Banking & Financial Services, Diploma in Marketing, Diploma in Media Studies & Management, Diploma in Sport & Wellness Management, and Diploma in Hospitality & Resort Management. There are two options for courses: full-time courses and part-time courses. SBM students can choose from one of the following four Options: ” Customer Relationship Management (CRM), ” Human Resource Management (HRM), ” Retail Management (RM), or Supply Chain Management (SCM).”

The cornerstone of the SBM-NYP applied practice-based teaching is Teaching Enterprise Project (TEP) concept. It is a very unique and innovative concept of training where students undergo practice-based learning through attachments with real business centres within the campus. The concept involves simulating authentic industry environment and facilities within the campus, so that students are trained on the latest equipment and follow actual industry practices. They have the opportunity to work on industry-commissioned projects, supervised by staff with extensive industry experience. Business students are scheduled to operate real business centres set up in the campus by the SBM. These business centres include Centre for Business Innovation (CBI), Customer Relationship Management Call Centre (CRMCC), International Business Resource Centre (IBRC), Marketing Services Centre (MSC) and Business Services Unit (BSU). These businesses provide a platform for actual hands-on training for SBM students. Also SBM have Entrepreneurship Programme (EP).

IBRC was established in 1993 to support Nanyang Polytechnic’s (NYP) strategic international thrust by helping to foster among staff and students a global mindset to face the competitive challenges of an integrated and borderless environment. While EP by Entrepreneurship Development is one of the key strategies in the SBM’s Thought Leadership. The School has pioneered a number of innovative programmes to help enhance creative thinking among the young and to develop an entrepreneurial mindset. We believe that young students should learn from an early age to be knowledgeable consumers, develop the right attitudes towards taking risks, and develop the skills to identify creative, and viable business opportunities leading to eventually starting their own businesses.

Lesson Learned

Tetapi ada pebedaan mencolok dengan SBM-NYP yakni mereka memiliki Business Center: “students are scheduled to operate real business centres set up in the campus by the SBM-NYP.
